Curia Personnel-Brief

 

Bishop Paul Hinder, Vicar Apostolic of Southern Arabia.

He was born in Bussnang TG, Switzerland, on April 22, 1942 to Wilhelm Hinder and Agnes Meile.

He joined the Franciscan Capuchin Order in 1962 and was ordained a priest on July 4, 1967. After specialized studies in Canon Law in Munich/Germany and Fribourg/Switzerland he got a Doctorate in Theology in 1976. He was active as a professor, in the formation of young Capuchins, later as provincial in Switzerland and since 1994 as General Councillor in Rome for the worldwide Capuchin Order.

On December 20, 2003, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Arabia and was ordained Bishop on January 30, 2004 in Abu Dhabi. On March 21, 2005 he succeeded Msgr. Bernardo Gremoli, now retired in Florence, Italy, as Vicar Apostolic of Arabia (UAE, Oman,Yemen, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia). It is in this capacity that he now shepherds the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia (UAE, Oman, Yemen).

Bishop Hinder is fluent in German, English, French, Italian.

He is a member of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People and a consultor of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples as well as the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

He has taken part in the Synod of Bishops for the Middle East, in the meetings of the Catholic-Muslim Forum in the Vatican and in Jordan, in a number of interreligious meetings and other international conferences.

  Fr. Troadio De Los Santos, OFM Cap., Vicar General.

 

 

Office e-mail: Vicar General      Born on 28th December 1942 to a faithful couple Joaquin & Rosa in Silang, Cavite, Philippines. He joined the Capuchin Order, Philippines Province Professed on 18th May 1962 and ordained on 30th August, 1969. He served the order as a School Director, Parish Priest and as a Provincial Minister for 15 years. He is Vicar General since October 2014.


 Fr. Valerian Fernandes, Chancellor.

Capuchin priest from the Holy Trinity Province of Karnataka in India was born in the diocese of Mangalore in 1963; he made his religious profession in 1985 and was ordained a priest on 12 May 1993. After different activities in the Province he was sent for higher studies in Rome, which he completed with a Doctorate in Canon Law in November 2011. Since February 2012, he renders his service to the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia as Chancellor of the Vicariate and as Auditor / Ecclesiastical Judge of the Marriage Tribunal.

Fr. Gandolf Wild, OFM Cap., Secretary.

Born in 1940 in Appenzell, Switzerland, he joined the Swiss Capuchin Province in 1960 and was ordained a priest on July 4, 1965.

He spent 27 mission years in education, formation and as superior in Tanzania and Kenya in Africa, 13 years in the secretariat of the Capuchin Order in Rome and came to Abu Dhabi in June 2008 at the insistent request of Bishop Paul Hinder, his former school mate.

Fr. Martin Stewen

Martin Stewen, Born in 1970 in Essen, Germany, ​Since 1997 in Switzerland, naturalized. Priest of the Diocese of Chur, working in Zurich. Doctorate in Theology and Masters in Supervision/Coaching/Mediation. Since 2015 Fidei Donum priest in AVOSA; moderator of the Office of Christian Formation; counselling. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Fr. Michael Egan

 

Fr. Michael Ivor Egan was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1927. After graduating from the university he worked in the airline business for 30 years all over the world. In 1981, at the age of 58, he began his theological training at the Pontifical Beda College in Rome and was ordained a priest by Blessed John Paul II in St. Peter's in 1985. Fr. Michael Egan was from the beginning incardinated in the Vicariate of Arabia and has served all his priestly years in the Gulf. Since April 2012 Fr. Michael lives in Bishop's House and is a much sought-after confessor, counsellor and hospital chaplain.
