St. Joseph's Church has a vibrant group of Teens. They meet every Friday for a Eucharist celebration at 9:00 am followed by Teen Catechesis at 10:00 am. The ministry caters to the post-confirmation group (Grades 9 - 12).
The Teen Ministry at our parish has continued to grow, with a program that appeals to the teens and offers them a secure space and environment where they can learn, share and experience the Catholic faith.
CURRICULUM
The parish uses the Vicariate-approved 'Life Teen' program as its core curriculum, supported by T3 - Teen Bible Timeline, Retreats, Eucharistic Adoration, Prayer - Evenings, Parish and Community Outreach activities.
MULTI-CULTURAL MIX
Realising the multicultural nature of our parish, we are committed to improve inculturation and we respect all amongst the teen community.
CORE TEAM
Our team of adults are capable of independently leading teaching sessions, supporting team presentations as well as facilitating the small groups that they are responsible for all through the year. We have consistently maintained the same small groups and adult leaders, and are pleased that the result has been a strong team spirit amongst the teens and a growing relational ministry where teens feel free to speak both with their peers and with their adult leaders.
In the course of three years of His ministry, Jesus invested his life and heart into his disciples, knowing that one day they would take on His mission. He kept them close, solicited their help and more importantly, He gave them his love and his heart. Our Relational Ministry builds that connection between the teens, between the teens and the adult leaders, and between the teens and Christ. Within these closely knit small groups, the teens have a safe place, a comfort zone where they can express themselves and feel heard.
TRAINING
Our adult leaders are encouraged to continue their formation and training by completing the courses offered by the Office of Christian Formation through the VLCFF - University of Dayton. Team members are currently pursuing the Certificate in Youth Ministry which comprises of 8 courses specific to youth and teen ministry. In addition, most of our team participated in the special training in counseling "In Their Shoes" organized for youth catechists by the OCF.
VICARIATE
At the vicariate level, our teens and adults participate in the annual Teens United For Faith retreat at St. Anthony's Church, RAK. Our adult leaders also continue to support the vicariate at other annual events including the Christian Formation Conference and training of youth leaders from other parishes.
TEACHING
Our lesson plan looks at incorporating a healthy blend of Life Sessions – Catechesis, Issue Sessions – Teen and Current issues, and Social Sessions – Fun, yet always with a strong underlying catechetical message.
PEDAGOGY
While our teaching methods continue to embrace the formats used by the Life Teen program, we use every opportune teaching moment to reach out to the teens and support them with not only their spiritual but a holistic formation that helps them grow individually. Our relational ministry is focussed on building communities of respect and trust where the teens can look for a deeper understanding of both faith and life issues. We also conduct regular Q&A sessions to answer questions posed by teens on various subjects.
COUNSELLING
We are blessed to have on our team a qualified counselor who the teens can approach any counseling requirements.
EVENTS
Our teens participate in the annual TUFF Retreat at St. Anthony’s Church, Ras Al Khaimah. Our core team members support the retreat in logistics, as small group leaders and counselors.
CHOIR
The St. Joseph's Youth Choir has been serving the catechism mass since its inception. However, with the current rotation of choirs, our choir has had limited opportunity to serve at mass. Despite it, the choir members have continued to work hard to maintain the high-quality performance that has been a hallmark of the choir. The choir continues to support the parish taking on additional masses on request for Christmas, New Years and Easter, and some choir members join the Grand Choir as and when the opportunity arises.
